Oakland Crime Watch

Built with Knowi

From governed data to a public product

Oakland Crime Watch shows what a Knowi App can do beyond an internal dashboard: turn one governed source into a branded, searchable, audience-specific experience with live analytics built in.

What this proves

One model, many audiences

Residents get address search, reporters get citable methods, and each neighborhood gets its own view without maintaining separate data pipelines.

Analytics can become the product

The same pattern can power customer security portals, title or campaign intelligence, and location-level operating views — branded for the audience, not the BI team.

Governance survives delivery

Bindings restrict the data the app can read. Server-rendered figures and embedded exploration use governed Knowi assets rather than copied exports.

Data

Knowi queries the city's CrimeWatch feed daily and stores governed datasets. Analysts build and change the interactive views in Knowi rather than shipping application code for every chart.

Governance

The app declares exactly which datasets and dashboards it may touch in a manifest. The Knowi Apps gateway enforces that list per request and hands the service a short-lived capability token; the service never holds a Knowi API key.

Rendering

Every page is produced on the server from cached query results, so headline figures, tables and maps are plain HTML that search engines and screen readers can read. Charts are inline SVG. Dashboards are embedded through the gateway's embed route.

Hosting

Knowi builds the app from its Git repository into an immutable artifact and runs it behind a gateway with its own domain and certificate. Publishing a new version is one click; rolling back is another.

Bring us one operational workflow

Give Knowi a governed dataset and a real audience. We can turn it into a branded proof of concept with citable summaries, role-specific pages, interactive analysis, and managed delivery.
